History

Honoring Past

Safeguarding memory, place, and legacy across the African Diaspora.

History is the foundation of Smalls Cultural Resources. As a heritage guardian and preservation leader with more than twelve years of experience, I collaborate with communities, descendants, organizations, and governments to identify, document, and restore historic African American and Gullah Geechee sites within the broader story of the African Diaspora. This work includes preserving communities, churches, burial grounds, and cultural landscapes; leading oral history initiatives; conducting cultural resource surveys; and advancing descendant-led preservation strategies. Together, these efforts protect sacred spaces and ensure that the stories, challenges, resilience, and triumphs of our ancestors remain honored, visible, and accessible for generations to come.
